Pregnancy & Birthing
Midwifery model of care with a holistic, family-centered approach. Our team includes four Board Certified Pediatricians available and on-call at all times and two Registered Nurses (RNs) with certification in child passenger safety.

The Birth Center at Pen Bay Medical Center offers a variety of Childbirth Education classes.

Breastfeeding Basics is a two hour class that provides a pre-birth opportunity to ask questions and learn about coping with breastfeeding and returning to work. $17 for mom and partner. Pen Bay Physicians Building, Conference Room D. Classes are held on the first Thursday of each month from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Please note no class is held in August.

Hypnobirthing. Mothers and their partners learn techniques for safe and satisfying birthing through guided imagery, visualization and special breathing. A tour of the Birth Center is included. $102 for mom and partner. Held in the Pen Bay Physicians Building, Conference Room C. Classes meet Thursday for 5 weeks from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. Please visit the events calendar for up to date class schedules.

Sibling Program. Children will learn about newborns and how to interact with them. Some safety lessons will be shared along with a discussion of their new roles as big brothers and big sisters. This class is by appointment only, please call 921-8345 to schedule. Registration is free.

Postpartum Follow Up. The postpartum follow up is a private visit with a nurse who is a Lactation Consultant to check on mom and and baby. The appointment is scheduled at the hospital for one to three days after discharge. By appointment only, please call 921-8345 to set up a time.

Jennifer McKenna, MD  Dr. McKenna joined Pen Bay Women’s Health in 2010. She is board-certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and received her medical degree from Keck School of Medicine, University of Southern California, Los Angeles and trained at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas. Richard Mellon, MD Dr. Mellon joined Pen Bay Women’s Health in 2012. He is board-certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He received his medical degree from Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick, NJ, where he also trained. Thomas O’Connor, III, MD  Dr. O’Connor joined Pen Bay Women’s Health in 1991. He is board-certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He received his medical degree from Tufts University and trained at York Hospital in York, PA.
Midwives + Support Team
Nancy Alexander, CNM, MS, RN received her Bachelors degree in Education from Bowie State University, her Associates degree of Nursing at Anne Arundel Community College and her Masters of Midwifery degree from the Midwifery Institute of Philadelphia University in 2013. Lynne Frey worked as a maternity nurse at Portland’s Mercy Hospital, enrolled in the Frontier Nursing Service’s midwifery program and completed her clinical education at Maine Medical Center and Pen Bay Medical Center. Eve K. Hadley, CNM, Certified Nurse Midwife, received her Bachelors degree in Fine Arts from Weslyan and a Master of Science degree in Nurse-Midwifery & Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner program from the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing in 2012. Erin L. Monberg, Certified Nurse Midwife, received her Bachelors degree in Philosophy from St. John’s College in Annapolis, MD and a Master of Science degree in Nursing from Vanderbilt University School of Nursing in 2002. Wendelanne Augunas, LCPC, is a licensed clinical professional counselor with specialty training in family therapy. She provides support and information to women and their families on a wide variety of issues, including adjustment from pregnancy to parenthood.
