The Cancer Care Center at Pen Bay Medical Center provides cancer treatment and support, detection and diagnosis, plus a full range of educational and counseling services. The Center is staffed by an on-site, board-certified hematologist /oncologist, a social worker dedicated to the unique needs of cancer patients, nurses with a special interest in caring for patients with cancer, several of whom have certification in oncology nursing and a certified tumor registrar.

The Center provides the following outpatient oncology and hematology care and infusion services to adults eighteen years and older:
- Oncology/Hematology assessments and follow up by Board Certified Oncologist and Nurse Practitioner
- Chemotherapy infusions by certified chemotherapy registered nurses
- Central line maintenance
- Blood transfusions, intravenous therapy, and injections
- Social workers
- Patient education
- Survivorship Care Planning
- Clinical Trials
- Intravenous therapy
- Rheumatology, neurology, nephrology, pulmonology, immunology, gastrology, infectious disease and psychiatry patients
The center has access to all other Pen Bay departments such as pharmacy, laboratory, radiology, respiratory and other medical staff resources in order to provide coordinated and efficient delivery of care to our patients.
Elizabeth Connelly, DO
Elizabeth Connelly, DO is board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, Hematology and Medical Oncology. She received her medical degree from the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Worth, TX and trained at Akron General Medical Center in Akron and the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, OH. She is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the Northern New England Clinical Oncology Society and the Society of General Internal Medicine.
William Fabricius, MD
William Fabricius, MD graduated from the Hematology Oncology Fellowship Program at the University of Massachusetts. He previously completed Chief Residency and Residency training in Internal Medicine at St Mary’s Hospital (Yale University affiliated) in Waterbury, CT. Dr. Fabricius is board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, Hematology and Medical Oncology
The Cancer Care Center of Pen Bay Medical Center is a community cancer center accredited by the American College of Surgeons, Commission on Cancer, a distinction we have had since 1979. We are also members in the Association of Community Cancer Centers.
The Cancer Care Center of Pen Bay Medical Center does not offer radiation services. We do, however, work closely with two centers that provide radiation to our patients.
To assist patients with the travel associated with accessing radiation services we offer:
- a gas card program to qualifying patients
- free transportation and free rides on the ferries that travel in from the Island communities
