At the recent Pen Bay Healthcare Annual Volunteer Recognition celebration, several different Pen Bay groups were recognized for their amazing yearlong accomplishments and distinguished volunteer careers. The event honored Pen Bay’s in-hospital volunteers; the Spiritual Care volunteers; the Pen Bay Healthcare Board of Trustees; the wonderful group of knitters known as the Pen Bay Stitchers, along with others who generously share their time, talents and compassion.
Eight volunteers received the 2014 Governor’s Awards for Service and Volunteerism. These persons received a personalized certificate and were named to the “Roll of Honor” for contributing more than 500 hours of service in 2013.
Presidential Service Awards were presented to 34 Volunteers, including eight Lifetime Achievement Awards to folks who have contributed more than 4000 hours during their volunteer careers; two Gold Awards for contributing between 500 and 3999 annual hours; three Silver Awards for contributing between 250 and 499 annual hours; and 21 Bronze awards for contributing between 100 and 249 annual hours. These persons receive a personalized certificate of achievement from the President’s Council on Service and Civic participation, a congratulatory letter signed by President Obama and an official President’s Volunteer Service Award lapel pin.
A poster asking, “You’ve been here HOW LONG?” was on display and listed the length of service by each volunteer from those who recently started. Suzanne Armstrong and Charlotte Root have been volunteering for more than 35 years at Pen Bay!
The annual celebration provides a special opportunity to thank these wonderful folks who make a difference in the lives of patients, families, visitors and staff at Pen Bay each and every day. Their contributions are priceless and they are truly appreciated and valued.
