Pen Bay Speech & Hearing


Pen Bay Speech & Hearing is a multidisciplinary team of professionals who evaluate, diagnose and treat individuals with communication, balance and swallowing disorders for adults as well as children.

Our team consists of an audiologist and several speech/language pathologists (SLPs), all of whom have advanced degrees in speech, hearing and language.

Pen Bay Speech & Hearing is located at 6 Madelyn Lane, off Route 1 in Rockport, ME in the Pen Bay Professional Building and across from Pen Bay Veterinary Associates.


We offer Speech and Language Evaluation and Therapy for adults and children including:

  • Mental retardation
  • Dysfluency
  • Voice disorders
  • Swallowing disorders
  • Stroke
  • Aphasia
  • Apraxia of speech
  • Dementia
  • Traumatic brain injury
  • Parkinson’s disease (certified in Lee Silverman Voice Treatment®)
  • ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease)

Our audiologist, Jessica Rhoades, Au.D. CCC-A, received her graduate degree from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and completed her externship training with the VA Connecticut Healthcare System. Dr. Rhoades provides a full range of Audiological services for the birth through geriatric population, including hearing evaluations, hearing aid fitting and dispensing and balance testing [VNG]. Speech and Hearing and Pediatric PT/OT are accepting referrals for these services.

Audiological services include:

  • Complete hearing assessments and balance testing (VNG) for patients of all ages
  • The latest prescription hearing aids at an affordable price
  • Earplugs for noise and swimming

We use Augmentative Communication Devices that range from low-tech tools such as picture symbols, to high-tech devices including the Apple iPad and DynaVox® speech generating device.
