Teen and Young Adult Depression and Self-Injury

February 27, 2014 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

| Free

Do you have or know of a young adult who suffers from depression? Parents, school personnel, counselors, youth service staff and other members of the community are invited to learn about young adult and teenage depression and self-inflicted harmful behavior at the Camden Opera House on Thursday, February 27, from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Come for information, resources and discussion.

When a young adult struggles with depression or high anxiety and develops self-injurious behavior, it’s a lonely and stressful time for the whole family. Presentations on depression, self-injury and resources by community and medical professionals include:

  • An introduction by Dr. Fredrick Goggans, chairman, Department of Psychiatry, Pen Bay Medical Center
  • The Scope of the Problem: Who is Most At Risk, What to Look for, Data and Trends by Dr. Aniruddh P. Behere, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Midcoast Mental Health Center
  • Helping Teens Who Cut: Understanding and Ending Self-Injury by Dr. Michael Hollander, McLean Hospital, Harvard Medical School
  • Resources for Help and Understanding How to Differentiate Between Self-Injury and Suicide by Greg Marley, LCSW, clinical director, NAMI Maine
  • A panel discussion moderated by Wendelanne Augunas, LCPC, co-director, Picker Family Resource Center

This event is sponsored by Pen Bay Healthcare’s Picker Family Resource Center, McLean Hospital and NAMI Maine.
