Patient and Family Centered Care is all about working as a team with patients, family members and caregivers where all members are important and safety and open communication are guiding principles. Pen Bay is a community healthcare provider delivering a wide range of healthcare services to our friends, neighbors, co-workers and especially our families. The interest and involvement of our community is essential for us to providing the finest care a few miles from home.

Pen Bay Medical Center has been committed to a patient- and family-centered approach to care in since 2010. At that time, a patient and family advisory council was formed to give patients and families a voice in decisions affecting patient care and family experiences at Pen Bay Medical Center. The Pen Bay Partners in Care Council (PBPCC), now entering its fourth year, serves to highlight the partnership between patients, families and our hospital.

The Council meets monthly, and includes community representatives from Knox and Waldo County as well as liaisons from Pen Bay Medical Center. In the past three years, the council has had an important role making changes at Pen Bay, including: suggestions for improving the patient billing experience, improvements in the Emergency Department and increasing healthy food choices in vending machines.
