The staff at the Penobscot Bay Medical Center Special Care Unit (SCU) is trained to provide specialized care for patients who have had heart attacks, major surgery, trauma or require intensive medical nursing care. Eight state-of-the-art patient rooms, each with a view of our beautiful garden, surround a central nursing core.

We provide comfortable waiting areas and overnight accommodations for families are available both in the unit and in other areas of the hospital. As patients recover, our Step Down unit provides a transition between special care and the general medical/surgical units.
