Film File Room and Records
Film File Room / Records
Radiology Film Room at Penobscot Bay Medical Center Radiology Department is responsible for maintaining, storing and retrieving a patient’s films that were completed at the hospital.
Penobscot Bay Medical Center radiology department is currently installing the fully integrated Picture Archive Communication System (PACS), which will allow the department to be film-less. This state-of-the-art system stores images electronically as digital data, providing patients and physicians with less waiting time, faster examinations and no lost film. Currently CT scans, ultrasounds and MRI exams are stored on PACS. All modalities are digital and stored on PACS; digital mammography, the last step, was completed June 3, 2009.
The film department requires a minimum of 24-hour notice to print films as well as a 48 hours turn around for film copying.
Film requests are to be directed to the Radiology Film Room at 596-8504. Please remember that all film requests require an authorized signature prior to release.
If the patient is unable to pick up their films, a signed note from the patient must be brought to the department and picture ID must be provided by the person picking up the films. In addition, films made prior to July 2006 are stored as hard copy as the PACS film-less system had not been implemented.
Films can also be mailed to hospitals or physicians upon request. Please provide the name, mailing address, and telephone number of the location you wish to have the films sent to. We use the U.S. Postal Service to mail all films. If faster services is required, it is the responsibility of the patient to pay for the service.
The department is staffed Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
If you need more information on retrieving your images, please call 596-8504 and a staff member will be more than happy to assist you.
