Collections and Services
Book Collection – The PBMC Library contains nearly 2000 books on biomedicine and related fields, including many books for the general public. The reference collection includes major texts in each specialty, and standard reference tools such as encyclopedias, dictionaries, anatomy, and drug reference books. All books are listed in MaineCat's automated catalog.

Reference books are labeled in red on their spines and must be used
in the library. "NEW BOOKS at the Niles Perkins Health Science Library" is an occasional list of new acquisitions that is posted on a bulletin board in the library. Some of the new books are displayed on the New Books area over the card catalog.
Journal Collection – The PBMC Library currently subscribes to approximately 225 journals, primarily in electronic format. These journals span a wide range of topics in the field of health care. A photocopier is located in the library for the convenience of PBMC staff and other library patrons. Electronic journals are available to PBMC staff and to the public with assistance from the librarian.

Consumer Health Information Collection – The librarian is available to help patrons find information. The library's public access computers have links to various sources of consumer-oriented health information. Library patrons may print out the full text of materials included in these sources.
Consumer Health Services include:
- Internet access and selected links to Internet resources
- Books (1 month borrowing period)
- Librarian-assisted searches as time permits
- Interlibrary loan (some fees may apply)
- Photocopy service
Medical Databases for Clinicians – The PBMC Library provides 'point of care' information so that physicians, nurses, and other practitioners have important clinical resourses at their fingertips at computers throughout the Pen Bay Healthcare (PBH) system. These full-text books, journals, and databases are available through PubMed, Access Medicine, UpToDate, MD Consult, Nursing Consult, STAT!Ref, Epocrates, Books @ Ovid, Journals @ Ovid, and Natural Medicine.
