
The Cancer Care Center at Pen Bay Medical Center provides cancer treatment and support, detection and diagnosis, plus a full range of educational and counseling services. The Center is staffed by an on-site, board-certified hematologist / oncologist, a social worker dedicated to the unique needs of cancer patients, and nurses with a special interest in caring for patients with cancer, several of whom have certification in oncology nursing. For the comfort of our patients, the Cancer Care Center has individual televisions, with headphones, at each chemotherapy chair.
Dr. Nadia Ramdin is a Board Certified medical oncologist with specialized training in Hematology. She graduated from Robert W. Johnson Medical School, New Brunswick, New Jersey. Her residency was at Roger Williams Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island and oncology/hematology fellowship was at Miriam Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island.
Dawn Murphy, MSN, RN, CRNP, the center’s oncology nurse practitioner, performs physical examinations, assesses patient status, communicates with supervising physicians, and coordinates care of oncology patients in office, clinic and infusion settings. She is also responsible for ongoing patient education about the disease process and treatment. Read more.
Cindy Bryant, RN, a certified oncology nurse, has been with Pen Bay since 1987. She received her associate's degree Weber State College in Ogden, Utah. She has received her certification from the Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation, an affiliate of the Oncology Nursing Society, which develops, administers and evaluates programs for certification in oncology nursing. This certification is part of the PBMC Cancer Care Center's ongoing commitment to continuing education and certifications in the field of oncology.
Oncology Social Workers are highly trained in the psychosocial care of patients and their families dealing with cancer, as well as knowledgeable about oncologic diseases and their treatments. Oncology Social Workers assist patients and their families in accessing services to help deal with the many changes in their lives.(personal, financial, employment). They also run support groups and provide crisis counseling.
Virginia Vaitones, the Center's Oncology Social Worker, was recently appointed as Chair of the American College Surgeon's Commission on Cancer (CoC) and president of the Association of Community Cancer Centers (ACCC). She also represents the Association of Oncology Social Work at the Commission on Cancer and was tapped for a Leadership in Oncology Social Work Award, which recognizes an exceptional member of Association of Oncology Social Work, a 1000+ member international organization. Kristina Kelley, the Regional Oncology Nurse Navigator, guides patients through the health care systems for timely diagnosis, treatment and survivorship care. She also connects patients with resources and support services in their communities to help decrease the stressors that a cancer diagnosis has on the patient and their family.
