Donation to Cancer Care Center
a special community gift

The Cancer Care Center at Penobscot Bay Medical Center has received a beautiful gift.  A 47-inch print of the colorful and well-known Breast Cancer Research Semi-Postal Stamp now graces the wall at the Cancer Care Center.

The artist who designed the stamp, Ethel Kessler of Bethesda, Maryland, was a guest at the Berry Manor Inn, whose owners, Cheryl Michaelsen and Mike LaPosta have opened their doors to the Annual Victorian Tea and Breast Health Fair for the last two years. When she learned of the Annual Tea, which has raised breast cancer awareness since 2004, Ethel Kessler, a breast cancer survivor herself, mailed two signed prints to the innkeepers.

The prints were displayed during the Annual Tea. After the event, Greg Pinto of GPI Custom Picture Framing in Rockland, framed the posters, generously donating his services the gift given for the Cancer Care Center. The framed prints along with the history of the stamp were presented to the Cancer Care Center and to Mike and Cheryl as thank you from the organizers of the event.

The breast cancer stamp is deemed valid for postage as a first class stamp with the extra amount going to breast cancer research programs. Since its issue in 1998, the stamp has raised more than $60 million for breast cancer research.
