Pen Bay Internal Medicine Welcomes Dr. Denise Anderson
Dr. Denise Anderson has joined Pen Bay Internal Medicine as an internist, taking over the practice of Dr. Richard Kahn, who has a new position as Senior Services Physician Specialist at Quarry Hill and the Knox Center.
She is accepting new patients and can be reached at Pen Bay Internal Medicine at 593-5801.
Anderson first came to Maine to work in Fort Kent at Northern Maine Medical Center as part of a National Health Service Scholarship she received while in medical school. Then she decided she wanted to stay in Maine.
"Living for two years in Aroostook County gave me an appreciation for the natural beauty of the state and the hospitality of its residents," she said. "I choose Pen Bay for the level of professionalism that was evident during the interview process and the apparent cohesiveness and collaborative nature of the internal medicine physicians."
She entered medical school after practicing as a registered nurse for seven years and as an Adult Nurse Practitioner for four years.
"As a nurse practitioner in general medicine, I enjoyed the adult population and the challenges of managing chronic diseases," she said. "My experience as a nurse led me to choose medical training as an internist and to practice in primary care. Developing long-term relationships with my patients is an important aspect of my health care beliefs. I hope to achieve this as an internist at Penobscot Bay Medical Center."
Anderson has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti; a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and a received a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Midwestern University – Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine, in Glendale, Ariz. She has worked as a medical officer for the United States Peace Corps in Central Asia, Northern Europe and the Central Pacific islands.
A native of Newton, Mass., she now lives in Rockport with her husband Ron Staschak. They are outdoor enthusiasts and members of the Appalachian Mountain Club and Bicycle Coalition of Maine. Anderson swam competitively at Tulane University and still swims regularly.
