Quarry Hill Names New Physical Plant Director
Quarry Hill Retirement Community has named Richard Mitchell of West Rockport as its new physical plant director.
Hired last winter to round out the Quarry Hill maintenance staff, Mitchell brought a full toolbox. He had served as warehouse manager for F. W. Webb in Rockland. Before that, as maintenance supervisor for Great Eastern Mussel Farm in Tenants Harbor, he juggled building maintenance and new construction, contract negotiations, groundskeeping, equipment purchasing and upkeep, project coordination and more. He supervised a staff of seven to boot.
Earlier in his career, the Camden native drove a school bus and worked as a welder, wrecker driver and mechanic. He also owned and operated a small business specializing in earthwork.
As physical plant director, Mitchell has become the go-to person for all matters pertaining to maintenance of Quarry Hill's "bricks and mortar" — the Anderson Inn and surrounding cottage homes — as well as upkeep and enhancement of the community's park-like 26 acres. He oversees an eight-person department.
"My immediate goals are simply to maintain the high quality of Quarry Hill's physical plant and to keep things running smoothly," Mitchell said. "Keeping our residents happy is job one."
