Quarry Hill Program on Vietnam Will Mix
Cultural and Culinary Perspectives
What little most Americans know about Vietnam begins and ends with the Vietnam War. But that could begin to change with a free program to be presented at the Anderson Inn at Quarry Hill in Camden on Wednesday, July 15, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. The event is part of Quarry Hill's Adventures in Living Well series, designed especially for adults age 55 and better.
In "Vietnam in a New Light: Exploring Vietnamese Culture and Cooking," Executive Chef Peter Gelman of Cappy's Chowder House in Camden will show how Vietnam's complex history and culinary traditions have influenced one another over centuries of wars and occupations to create a culture of remarkable richness and beauty. Participants will have an opportunity to sample authentic Vietnamese dishes, provided and prepared by Cappy's Chowder House, Chef Gelman, and Quarry Hill Executive Chef John Roy.
Following the July event, the summer Adventures series will conclude with "Edna St. Vincent Millay: Her Life and Times in Camden," presented by local historian Barbara Dyer and actress Marie Merrifield, on Wednesday, August 19, from 1:00 to 2:30 pm at the Camden Public Library (cosponsored by the library).
Both events are offered free of charge. Reservations may be made by calling Quarry Hill at 230-6114.
