News Release
12/9/2008
Penobscot Bay Medical Center recently received a donation of gas cards for use by women in treatment for breast cancer.
Deborah and Cheryl Gaudiana donated gas cards worth $400 to PBMC in honor of Cheryl's surviving breast cancer. The two are sisters and artists, going by the name of "The Artlandish Sisters." A portion of the proceeds of their work goes to women in treatment for breast cancer. Cheryl Gaudiana, a part-time Islesboro resident, received some of her treatment at PBMC. Deborah Gaudiana lives in Rhode Island.
"Our goal is to create an awareness of breast cancer using humor as our guide. The uniqueness of our art evokes strong emotions in the viewer, including tears of joy," said Cheryl Guadiana.
"PBMC is grateful, not only for the sisters' donation, but also for their gift of laughter – a powerful medicine that supports healing," said Linda Zeigler, RN, C, women's health educator at PBMC. Zeigler is a breast health specialist and coordinates the Navigator Program. This program offers education and support to those diagnosed with breast cancer to help them successfully navigate the healthcare system.
