PBMC Welcomes Amy Boynton,
Director of Creative Learning and Childcare Center

Amy Boynton has joined the Pen Bay Healthcare family as the new director of the Creative Learning and Child Care Center at Penobscot Bay Medical Center.Amy Boynton

She is currently the secretary on the board for the Maine Association for the Education of Young Children, the state affiliate of the National Association for the Education of Young Children.

Penobscot Bay Medical Center is one of the few hospitals in Maine to offer its employees on-site childcare; one of Boynton's goals is to attain national accreditation for the center.

Before joining the Creative Learning and Child Care Center at PBMC, Boynton was the owner of her own accredited family child care, Growing Wonder Child Care & Preschool in Thomaston.

Boynton has been a caregiver and preschool teacher since 2000. She graduated magna cum laude from the University of Maine at Farmington with a degree in early childhood education. She is currently attending a graduate program in Portland through Wheelock College in Boston to complete a master's degree in leadership and policy in early care and education. She plans to graduate in December.

She lives in Thomaston with her husband, Todd, and their two daughters, Cassidy, 8, and Emily, 6. She enjoys spending time with her family and dogs, camping, and walking.

"Joining the Creative Learning and Childcare Center is a great opportunity to take on a leadership role in the field of early care and education within a system that treats its employees well," said Boynton. "We have a wonderful teaching staff here, many of whom have been here since the center opened in 1990, who truly want what is best for the children and families we serve."

"I feel very passionate about providing high quality care and education to children," she said. "We have a great program in place already, but I believe we can, and should, always strive to do better. All of our teachers are pursuing further educational training in early care and education, and many have plans to complete their Child Development Associate credential in the next few months."

Boynton said the center is looking into the adoption of a nationally recognized, comprehensive curriculum and assessment system for all of its classrooms. This is an important step toward achieving national accreditation through the National Association for the Education of Young Children.
