Originally from Concord, Mass., Read comes to Pen Bay Healthcare from the Inflammation Research Foundation, based in Marblehead, Mass. She summered in Monhegan with her family; her grand parents and great grandparents lived in South Bristol.

A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Read has a certificate in human resources from the University of New Hampshire.

Her previous experience includes work in the development departments at the Landmark School in Prides Crossing, Mass., and the North Shore Music Theater in Beverly, Mass.

Read sees her previous work as a natural stepping stone to Pen Bay Healthcare, where her work in development and communications will help raise both community awareness and funds, privately and via grants, for the region's largest healthcare organization and leading referral hospital.

"I'm passionate about community building. Development, marketing and communications is the place to connect with community, build community, and serve community," said Read.

Her goals for the department include building on internal strengths and developing a culture of philanthropy in the healthcare system.

She lives in Tenants Harbor with her husband, Richard Cohen. They have three adult children who live in Maryland, Minnesota and Germany. Read and Cohen enjoy kayaking, fixing their old farm house, fly fishing, gardening and skiing.
