Kno-Wal-Lin Home Care and Hospice has received checks totaling $850 from the Shaw's Supermarkets Receipt Rewards program. When Shaw's Supermarkets announced their "Receipt Rewards" program last year, a member of Kno-Wal-Lin's Volunteer Auxiliary thought it sounded like a great way to raise money for the non-profit home care and hospice agency' auxiliary program.

Collection of receipts began last summer and it took only one year for Kno-Wal-Lin to collect receipts totaling $100,000 which, when turned in to Shaw's, yielded the $850 donation. Proceeds will go to Kno-Wal-Lin's Baby O Baby pediatric program which provides needed items that are not covered by insurance or state funds to its pediatric home care patients.

Over the past year, Shaw's receipts have been collected from Auxiliary members, Kno-Wal-Lin staff, the Lincolnville Women's Club, friends and family. Volunteer Coordinator, Joy Chamberlain, said the Pediatric Program has also been supported not only by it Auxiliaries in Lincoln, Knox and Waldo counties, as well as by Kiwanis of Rockland.

Baby O Baby program funds are dispersed at the request of Kno-Wal-Lin's pediatric nursing and social work staff. Not only has the fund donated diapers, wipes and formula, but requests for a nebulizer and a diabetic pump cover also have been accommodated Vouchers for gasoline were supplied to families traveling to visit Kno-Wal-Lin pediatric clients who were admitted to hospitals in Bangor, Portland and Boston.

Kno-Wal-Lin enjoys a reputation in its service area as a responsive agency providing the highest quality of care. At the end of the last fiscal year, patient satisfaction with KWL nurses was at 100 percent. Other quality indicators are above both the national averages and KWL goals. Employees of Kno-Wal-Lin participate in decision-making, are celebrated for their many accomplishments and work as an integrated team for the benefit of those who need them.
