PBMC Annual "Happy Birthday Baby" Party

A record crowd of babies, parents and grandparents attended the fifth annual Happy Birthday Baby party on Sunday, Aug. 10. Baby Birthday Scene August 08

More than 175 people, including at least 65 babies, gathered on the front lawn at Penobscot Bay Medical Center to celebrate the babies born in the past year at PBMC and elsewhere.

Under a large white tent were chairs and tables with fresh flowers, as well as delicious and healthy treats. There were play areas for babies and toddlers, a swap shop for gently used baby items, and a photo booth where people could have their pictures taken and then decorate frames.

Nola Metcalf, RN, Ob/Gyn, conducted a record 22 car seat checks in the parking lot of the Physicians Building, making sure that car seats were correctly installed in people's vehicles.

"Year after year, I stand in awe at the commitment that people have in this area to their families and their children," said Wendelanne Augunas, PBH Women and Family Health Coordinator.

Dr. Sam Lew, a pediatrician who has just started his practice in Rockport, spoke to those assembled under the big white tent about water and sun and insect safety, as well as how to prepare children for pets and pets for children. He also fielded many questions.

The event's annual "Diaper Dash" was the largest yet, with 10 contestants scooching and crawling their way to victory.
