Quarry Hill to Offer Parkinson's Disease
Resource and Information Forum
People living with Parkinson's disease and their caregivers, as well as interested healthcare practitioners, are invited to attend a Parkinson's Disease Resource and Information Forum, to be held on Tuesday, April 29, from 4 to 5 p.m., at Quarry Hill Retirement Community in Camden.
On hand to discuss services for people with Parkinson's in the midcoast area will be local neurologist Dr. Judd Jensen; Carol Woodbury Witham, a clinical exercise specialist who developed and teaches a class called "New Pathways for Parkinson's"; staff from the Maine Family Caregiver Support Program; and others offering support, expertise, and services to those affected by the condition.
In addition, members of Quarry Hill's monthly Parkinson's Support Group will be available to answer questions about the group and suggest resources available to the Parkinson's community through state and national organizations. An exhibit area will have literature and other materials available for the taking.
Quarry Hill health services coordinator Suzanne Miller, RN, said she hopes the forum will provide vital connections for persons with Parkinson's and their caregivers. She said the event may be particularly helpful to healthcare providers who want to learn more about services and referral options for their patients with Parkinson's.
"Many in the Parkinson's community aren't aware of the expertise they can tap into, right here in midcoast Maine," Miller commented. "We want to help patients, caregivers, and practitioners access those resources."
Hors d'oeuvres will be served.
The forum will be held on the first floor of the Anderson Inn at Quarry Hill. Admission is free, but registration is requested. To sign up, please call Quarry Hill at 230-6114.
Quarry Hill's Parkinson's Support Group meets at noon on the first Tuesday of each month in the Anderson Inn. Membership is free and open to anyone with Parkinson's disease, their caregivers, loved ones, and other interested persons.
