The Adult Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) is a short term, 2 bed adult program operating 24-hours per day, 365 days a year. The CSU is designed to support individuals experiencing an acute crisis as they reintegrate into their community without the use of hospitalization.
The CSU promotes a post-hospital stabilization program which is designed to better assist individuals who are transitioning from an inpatient psychiatric unit to their community with continued support and resources. MCMHC's staff of trained CSU clinicians work with people on solution focused goals in order to improve functions of daily living and to build effective self-supported coping strategies.
The CSU focuses on client centered treatment based on the individuals identified immediate needs. The CSU values a team approach and works cooperatively with the individual, their natural supports and outside providers.
As we treat everyone based on their individual needs, we recognize that people with co-occurring disorders need to have integrated treatment.
People that have a mental illness and substance abuse diagnosis require focused treatment for success. As we treat everyone based on their individual needs, we recognize that people with co-occurring disorders need to have integrated treatment. The CSU also recognizes that people are in different stages of their recovery process and need to be treated accordingly. People with co-occurring disorders often have multiple providers to meet their needs. The CSU uses a treatment team approach and will make every effort to communicate with providers for initial treatment planning, client progress and challenges. The CSU encourages client independence as well as choice of recovery and understands the barriers people with mental illness and substance abuse diagnoses can face.
Included in their treatment will be education and support on nutrition, coping skills, signs and symptoms of relapse, relapse prevention, and medications. The CSU will have resources available to assist people in their process. Our Clinical Team includes crisis clinicians, MHRT certified direct care staff, psychiatric nurses and consulting psychiatrists.
Important insurance information:
- MaineCare will pay for the CSU without prior approval.
- Commercial insurances do not always approve CSU stays. Crisis Clinicians will call and attempt to obtain coverage from commercial insurances at admission.
- Sliding Scales Clients with no insurance and clients with insurance that does not cover the CSU, are asked to complete an economic assessment and will be billed on a sliding scale. The daily rate for self pay clients includes room and board, clinical check-ins and nursing visits.
