Knox Center and Quarry Hill
Get High Marks in Patient Satisfaction  

Quarry Hill Retirement Community in Camden and the Knox Center for Long Term Care in Rockland earned high marks for patient and family satisfaction in a recent national survey of 571 short and long-term care facilities. Quarry Hill ranked in the 93rd percentile, while the Knox Center placed in the 91st percentile.

The results mean that Quarry Hill scored better, overall, than 93 percent of the participating communities. The Knox Center scored better, overall, than 91 percent of survey sample. The study covered the period from November 1, 2006, to April 30, 2007. 

Both Quarry Hill and the Knox Center use the services of Press Ganey Associates, Inc., an Indiana-based company that measures healthcare satisfaction to gauge, assess and ultimately improve the quality of services provided to their patients. Press Ganey’s patient-and-family surveys help both communities identify and address areas needing improvement. They also provide insight into how the quality of care at Quarry Hill and the Knox Center measures up to that of comparable facilities in Maine and nationwide. 

“These results are a big accomplishment,” said Robert McKeown, Executive Director, Long-Term Care, at both facilities. “They reflect our staff’s dedication to meeting and exceeding the expectations of our patients and their families while they’re with us. And they’re particularly exciting because the survey is a nationwide ranking that compares us to similar communities all across the U.S.” 

McKeown called the Press Ganey survey “a vital tool in our ongoing quality-improvement efforts” and said the findings “assist us in implementing changes based on the expressed needs and concerns of our patients and residents.” 

Don Gross, Director, Knox Center, commented: “We’re proud of the care we provide to our patients and families. Their satisfaction means everything to us, which is why we’re especially pleased by the results of this year’s survey.” 

Press Ganey currently assists more than 7,000 healthcare facilities in collecting and using patients’ evaluations. Among U.S. inpatient hospitals, roughly one-third currently contract with Press Ganey to measure patient satisfaction.
