Kno-Wal-Lin Homecare and Hospice, is building a Hospice House in Rockland, Maine. This exciting project will expand the high quality end of life care services already provided by the Kno-Wal-Lin Hospice Program in Knox, Waldo, and Lincoln Counties, and will be available to patients and families throughout Midcoast Maine.

“End of life is a time of bringing one’s life to a close. It is our hope that our Hospice House will provide the atmosphere as well as caring and compassionate staff to help our patients and their families achieve peace and comfort during this final journey.”
- Sarah Dwelley, RN, Hospice Program Manager

The Hospice House will provide care for people who are in the final weeks or days of their lives, as well as to patients whose caregivers are in need of respite from taking care of their loved ones who are facing the end of their lives. In addition to caring for terminally ill patients, Hospice House staff will also provide support and hospitality for families who are grieving and want to be with their loved ones during their final days.
The design of the Hospice House is based on a New England Farmstead with a “Big House, Little House, Back House, Barn” configuration. The Houses will be connected by glass enclosed passageways surrounding two large courtyards with four-seasons gardens. The “Big House” is home to the community living room, dining area, kitchen and pantry. The “Little House” consists of the administrative offices, conference room and workspace for staff. Our “Back Houses” consist of 7 patient suites, each with a private bath and living area to accommodate family. A library and sanctuary are also part of the “Back Houses.” The “Barn” contains the garage, staff lounge, storage and electrical/mechanical rooms. Please see the floor plan, interior and exterior renderings.

The Hospice House will provide state of the art pain and symptom management combined with compassionate care, away from the hustle and bustle of a hospital or a rehabilitation facility. The atmosphere of the Hospice House will be one of peace and tranquility and the interior design and furnishings will “look like, act like, and feel like home.”

Help us Build the Hospice House
Designed by Harriman Associates, with Construction Management provided by Wright-Ryan, the actual construction of the Hospice House will be sought from local providers in the building industry. The cost of this hospice facility is expected to be $3.3 million, one hundred percent of which will be raised through charitable support.
