PBH CEO Roy Hitchings presented King with a plaque and a $1,000 bonus during a ceremony on Sept. 17, at the end of Pen Bay Healthcare's Employee Appreciation Week.
King, with Pen Bay Healthcare for five years, is one of the people in charge of making sure the PBMC operating rooms have all the equipment and materials needed for each surgery.
"The OR -- once you get in those doors, you are all working together -- it really is a family. To make sure the patients are safe and we all work together to make sure that happens. From the doctors, nurses, to little old me," he said.
King was surprised and honored to be chosen as the employee of the year, saying: "It was not something I ever thought I'd be nominated for. There are many other people here who work just as hard as I do."
King was praised for his positive attitude, strong organizational skills, emphasis on patient safety, his willingness to cross-train and daily contributions to keeping a busy department running smoothly and efficiently.
