John James Audubon Art Highlighted in Illustrated Talk
July 16 @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pm
The life and work of artist John James Audubon will be the topic of the next edition of Quarry Hill’s popular Adventures in Living Well series.
Nationally known art historian, writer, and lecturer Stephen May will deliver “Magnificent Obsession: The Art of John James Audubon,” a generously illustrated talk illuminating the artist/naturalist’s effort during the first half of the 19th century to depict, in life-sized watercolors, all of America’s bird species in their native habitats.
May has called Audubon “one of the most fascinating figures in American history.” He credits the work of the French émigré artist with helping to shape America’s national identity by introducing the young nation to its vast natural resources.
Adventures in Living Well programs are designed to enhance the health and vitality of adults age 55 and better. Admission is free, but registration is required. To sign up, call Quarry Hill at 230-6116.
