Curious About Misinformation On Hidden Toxic Chemicals? Attend Free Screening
March 30 @ 2:00 pm - 4:30 pm| Free
Pen Bay Healthcare invites you to a free screening of the documentary, Toxic Hot Seat, by Kirby Walker and James Redford, followed by a Q&A after the film.
Toxic Hot Seat unravels the shadowy, decade-long campaign of deception by chemical and tobacco industries as a courageous group of firefighters and mothers, journalists and scientists, politicians and activists fight to expose years of deception that have left a toxic legacy in our homes and bodies.
The documentary film asks: Why have we let 84,000 chemicals go largely unregulated in this country? Set against the back drop of the award-winning 2012 Chicago Tribune investigative series “Playing with Fire”, it details how tobacco companies convinced fire safety officials to back a standard that all furniture be filled with toxic flame retardants.
Maine Representative Hannah Pingree delivers one of the strongest lines in the movie.
Seating is limited, RSVP to Cyndi Clayton at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 594-6705.
The film is presented by the Environmental Health Strategy Center, Portland, in collaboration with the Camden International Film Festival, the Professional Firefighters of Maine and Pen Bay Healthcare Foundation. Caroline Knight, BSN, RN, CCRP, Pen Bay Medical Center’s clinical research specialist will join Maine Representative Hannah Pingree, the film’s director Kirby Walker and Environmental Health Strategy Center executive director Mike Belliveau for Q & A following the film.
