Simple & Delicious: Smoothies, Healthy Snacks & Dessert Cooking Class

Want to spice up your cooking routine? Parents, beginners in the kitchen and established cooks who are looking to expand their taste buds are all invited to Simple & Delicious, a new series of cooking classes that focus on simple, healthy and inexpensive recipes. The classes will take place on Thursdays, March 20, April 24 and May 22, from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at the Picker Family Resource Center and are co-taught by cooking enthusiasts Donna Ames, Wendelanne Augunas and Linda Zeigler. Attend one or all three sessions.
The first session is “Play With Your Food: Exploring Flavors.” In this class students will use their individual flavor preferences to make their own guacamole, hummus, salsa and oven-baked tortilla chips and learn how a few simple changes in preparation can make food taste better and cost less.
Additional sessions include “Eggs Aren’t Just For Breakfast” on April 24 and “Smoothies, Healthy Snacks & Desserts” on May 22. Classes will cover new ideas and recipes for healthy meals, how to prepare healthy snacks and how to make favorite recipes healthier.

Zing! is a positive, encouraging program that helps children and their families learn healthy habits. Donna Ames works with children ages 6 to18 who have been referred by their doctor’s office because of weight and health concerns.
